Gentleness

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Proverbs 15:1

I have always disliked when someone is always being harsh. Some would see that as a sign of “weakness”; however, I see it as turning away from the unnecessary. Yes, sometimes things are difficult, and you need to be more firm. But, just like a stick-free pan, using something too hard can lead to more damage.

Proverbs 15:1 NIV states, “a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” I understand that there may have been those who were too rough with you, and you have become hardened and abrasive to protect yourself. However, that unforgiveness in your heart is burning your relationships with others and depleting your energy. It is not easy to always be gentle, but it starts with one step. Today, I encourage you to practice gentleness when someone gives you the opposite. Meditate on gentleness in your heart, and you will see your outpour of loving-kindness manifest through others.
